Red Barn Invitation Instructions

What you will need:

  • 10 sheets of red card stock
  • 10 sheets of white card stock
  • Glue (preferably stick glue)
  • Markers
  • Animal stickers

First, take a sheet of red card stock. Draw and cut out the shape of a barn. Draw a loft window and a pair of barn doors. Cut between the barn doors and the tops of the doors, so that the doors open. Then cut the loft open, cut along the top, bottom, and the right side so it folds open to the left.

Now take the barn and flip it over and put glue all over the back of it except for the loft window and the door. On the side with the glue, line the bottom edge of the white cardstock with the bottom of the barn. Cut off the excess white around the outside of he barn.

At this point, you can decorate your 1st birthday farm barn invitations with the markers to make it more festive, and add animal stickers on the outside bottom and one in the loft. Across the barn doors, you can put "Farmer (your baby's name) Birthday Bash". Finally, on the inside of the doors you can put your party information. This should include the date, time, address, and RSVP phone number for the 1st birthday farm party.

Personalized Farmer Invitation

To add a personal touch, you can also print out a clipart picture of a farmer on white card stock, then take a picture of your child's face and glue it over the farmer's face. Then use the back to write your 1st birthday farm party information.

1st Birthday Farm Party Decorations

Use bright colors that are farm and nature related, such as red like a barn, yellow like hay, green like vegetation, and brown like fences.

Hang red, yellow, and green streamers and Mylar balloons with farm animal designs on them. Mylar Balloons are typically best for a Farm first birthday party, as they are safer for young children and are harder to pop. If you want to add a little extra flair to your baby’s party use these amazing looking Cow Shaped Mylar Balloons and Pig Shaped Mylar Balloons! If the party is held outside, place pumpkins, corn stalks, and bales of hay or straw around party area. If indoors, you can also purchase Mini Bales of Hay and mini pumpkins to maintain that on the farm feel.

If you or one of your friends know anybody that owns a farm it's possible that they may let you borrow a few bales of hay without spending any money. If you have any wagons or wheelbarrows, you can fill them with hay. You can put pictures of farm animals around the party area.

Place stuffed animals and novelty toys that are related to your theme in play areas and on tables as centerpieces. Cover your furniture and tables with faux fur, flannel cloth, or cow print fabric.

Use Farm animal table covers and set the tables with Farm tableware like plates, napkins and cups to give your baby’s party a true farm party feel! You could also use white cups and take a black marker to make cow prints on them. Put snacks in new planting pots and wicker baskets, you could leave them as is, or you can cover them with faux fur or a bandanna.

You can also put twine or rope around trees, mailbox, balloons, and table legs for that farm feel. Make swinging barn doors at the entrance to your baby's birthday party out of two wooden posts and cardboard, use a marker to draw nails and natural looking lines and rings that wood have.

You can purchase or make your own personalized Farm birthday banners. A few ideas of where you can put your 1st birthday farm banners are at the entrance to your house, above the gift table, and above the birthday cake. When the children arrive, give them Farm cone party hats.

First Birthday Icebreaker Activities

Bubble Time: There isn't a child out there who doesn't love bubbles. Though you can blow them yourself, it will be more convenient to use a Party Bubble Machine.

While the children are crawling and running around chasing the bubbles, it's a good idea to have some children's music playing in the background to get your guests moving.

Have you ever tried to make your own bubble mixture at home and it didn't work? Here's how to make that perfect bubble mixture formula at home. Homemade Bubble Recipes

Tattoos: Temporary tattoos are a fun 1st birthday farm party substitute for face painting. It is not particularly safe for one year olds to have face paint on, as they may eat it or rub it in their eyes.

Baby Playdough: Playdough is a great 1st birthday party idea for your farm birthday party; it will spark curiosity in your baby and guests. Give your birthday baby and little guest's plastic farm animal cookie cutters and some Playdough. If they choose not to use the cookie cutter just let them play and explore on their own, the cookie cutters can be sent home with them as a party favor.

You can choose to purchase your Playdough or you can make your own. Look at these simple Homemade Playdough Recipes, some of our playdough recipes are edible which are recommended for your baby's first birthday party.

Make sure that you have a clean plastic or rubber mat set up for this activity, not just for your floors safety, but more importantly for the children's safety. Be sure that you choose a mat that is hard to bend or tear, so that it will not be a choking hazard.

Petting Zoo: For this type of entertainment you can take the kids to your local petting zoo or hire a service that will bring the petting zoo to your home. Both have their benefits. If you go to your local petting zoo...

  • You are in a more controlled environment
  • The admission fee would be less
  • There will be no mess from the animals that you will have to clean up

If you have a service bring the animals to your home...

  • You won't have any travel expenses
  • If some of the children are frightened by the animals (which can happen) there are other activities they can do
  • You can have more of a party because you won't lose time on getting all the children ready and travel to and from a petting zoo

Remember, before you decide to have a petting zoo as a part of your 1st birthday farm party, to call the parents of the children you will be inviting to see if their kids have any allergies to certain animals.

First Birthday Party Food and Drink

1st Birthday Cakes

Tractor Cake

You can purchase a Tractor Cake Pan, these novelty cake pans come with complete decorating instructions. Now anyone can make a professional looking cake from home with ease. When you have finished the cake, add some Farm Birthday Candles.

Farm Landscape Cake

If you want to make the best 1st birthday farm cake, you cannot go wrong with a farm landscape!

Start by baking a large rectangle shaped cake, preferably chocolate to simulate the dirt underground. Use green icing for the grass. There are two ways to make your icing look like grass, you could use a icing decorating bag with the grass tip, or you can use white icing and add shredded coconut to it and then dye it green. Use crushed Oreo cookies for dirt. If you want to add hay to your baby's 1st birthday farm cake you can either use the white icing and coconut technique but use yellow dye instead of green or you can use the Post Cereal Shredded Wheats as bales of hay.

You can make a silo with two cupcakes and some icing. Cut the top off of one of the cupcakes. Put icing on the top of it, and put the other cupcake on top. Then decorate with grey icing; you can put darker grey lines on it to simulate the different metal panels of a silo.

You can use the smaller pretzel sticks as a fence, and build a graham cracker barn held together with icing. If it is hot, it is best to keep the cake refrigerated, or the icing on the barn will soften up and it will collapse. Now to finish these first birthday cake ideas off, place small plastic farm animals all over the cake. Put the cow by the barn, pigs in the dirt, horses by the hay, and the sheep and goats in the grass.

Serve your Farm Cake with Cookies and Cream ice cream; it has that white with black blotch cow look.

First Birthday Party Food

When it comes to a 1st birthday farm party theme their are two groups of people you have to feed, the other babies at the birthday party who probably are not eating solid foods yet, and the older kids and other parents.

Before deciding on any food for your party menu, it is best to call all the parents of the children that will be invited and find out if they have any food allergies. For the babies that are still eating Stage 3 jarred food, Gerber has many different jar foods that will go perfect with your 1st birthday farm theme and they are:

  • Chicken Noodle Dinner
  • Vegetable Chicken
  • Turkey Rice & Garden Vegetables
  • Vegetable Beef
  • Vegetable Turkey

You can have them snack on Gerber's Biter Biscuits and Zwieback Toast for babies who are learning to self-feed.

There are also some soft and easy to chew foods that may be easy for the children who have started eating solid foods and have teeth, typically babies between 12 - 24 months old and they are:

  • Fries
  • Pasta
  • Beans
  • Baked Potatoes
  • Potato Salad
  • Macaroni Salad

You can have them snack on Gerber's Veggie Wagon Wheels and Veggie Puffs.

For the older kids and the adults a BBQ will fit your farm theme perfectly, you can serve chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, coleslaw, baked beans, and corn on the cob, etc.

1st Birthday Drinks

Serve your punch in a large punch bowl with a wooden ladle for a rustic look. You can purchase a tin washtub to fill with ice and cans of soda pop.

Other popular 1st birthday farm party drinks are white and chocolate milk, Juicy Juice - Harvest Surprise (one serving of Harvest Surprise contains 2 of the recommended servings of fruit & vegetables), and lemonade.

Birthday Party Favor Ideas

Party favors are the perfect mementos to give your guests to thank them for attending your baby's 1st birthday farm party. It's not necessary to spend a lot of money on favors for your child's first farm birthday party, simple favors are all you need as little children can be amused by simple toys.

Just be sure that the favors you buy are safe for small children. Avoid favors that are small, have small parts, pointed edges, or break easily.

Here is a list of the most popular farm birthday party favor ideas:

One fun idea is to put the guests' party favors in a red bandana or you can use these Barn Favor Boxes.

1st Birthday Farm Party Games and Activities

Baby Band: Purchase a few inexpensive mini keyboards (can be found a most Dollar Stores), be sure they are the ones that can play multiple instruments. This is a great activity to video record. Sit the children far enough apart so they won't be tempted to grab another baby's keyboard. Give each child keyboard and set each one to a different instrument, remember to keep one for yourself so you can show the kids what to do.

Pitchin' for Bottles: For this you will need twelve inexpensive baby bottles filled a quarter way with animal crackers. Then set the bottles up in two rows of six, set all the kids next to each other, and give them all little foam balls. (Foam balls must be heavy enough to knock down bottles) Have a parent behind each of the kids and one adult with a ball in the middle. The adult in the middle will say, "throw" and throw their ball just over the bottles to show the kids what to do. At the same time the parents can encourage the children to through their balls.

Wagon Ride: Have the children take turns being pulled around in a wagon. A variation of this would be to have a hayride, where the parents hold their children in a wagon while its pulled by a tractor. This is a classic 1st birthday farm party activity.

Sing Songs: Sing simple upbeat children's songs that involve funny sounds and body movement. Many children around this age have certain favorite songs. Click here for a list of 1st Birthday Party Songs with their lyrics.

Farm Party Pinata: No party is complete without a Pinata game, and since this is your baby’s first party make sure you use a pull string kit on your pinata. There are many different types of farm related pinatas to choose from so, we have found you the most popular and below retail farm pinatas out there!

Video Time: Show some of the funniest and cutest home video moments from your baby's first year. (Should be no longer than 15 minutes)
